West Yearbook 2014-15 Takes 1st Place in National Contest
Congratulations to the PPCMS-West Yearbook Staff for an outstanding publication. Our book was selected first place out of hundreds of entries in the Best Overall Senior/Junior High/Middle School Category. Winner gets a cash prize of $250.00. "The students came in this year with their theme already picked out," said Ms. Léger, yearbook advisor. "I thought that a circus theme might be a little juvenile, but they added a vintage flair and really made it work!" Students learn to do Photoshop, In Design and photography to make the yearbook what it is. They do not use pre-set programs; the yearbook is completely original. "It takes a team," quipped Glo MacDonald, graphic designer, "and it's always nice to be acknowledged." Students may apply for yearbook or any media classes at the end of their 6th grade year. A few of our award winning yearbooks are still available on sale now for $45.

PPCMS is very proud to announce that we are now a Cambridge International Secondary 1 School. This is an engaging, accelerated, academic experience for highly motivated learners aged 11-14. It is an internationally-renowned program that prepares students to think critically, communicate clearly and establish well-reasoned arguments. Students will increase their comprehension of global issues with multiple perspectives. Science will expand from 8th grade to 6-8 in the fall of 2015 including enriching field trips such as Kennedy Space Center, Ocean/Waterways preservation and environmental Clean Up. Fostering a love of art and humanities is enmeshed in the English Curriculum including museum visits and guest speakers. For more information, pick up a brochure here at school or contact our Cambridge Coordinator, Ms. Léger, at (954) 443-4847 or via email.

PPCMS-W does it again! On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, Dr. Michael Olson, a representative from the Florida Department of Education School Of Choice Office, presented Ms. Flowers, Mr. Castellano and our entire leadership team an award for being chosen to be among the top three out of 144 schools as an exemplary school. This means that our teaching and learning are above and beyond – so much so that the Department of Education would like to tape some of our classes and showcase them to the entire state on how to implement the Florida State Standards! The Aventura City of Excellence and the Tallahassee School of Arts and Sciences were the other two school selected. When asked why our school was chosen, Dr. Olson said immediately, “Student engagement. It is clear that students express themselves and are participating in class.” Thanks, Dr. Olson! A professional television crew visited our campus in May 2014 and we are anxiously awaiting our debut on the state website!
